DESCRIPTION:
This 24 hour training program is designed for all emergency response personnel and excavation underground utility workers. This course teaches personnel the main trench/excavation regulation and standard within the United States (OSHA 1926) and the various collapse indicators and collapse patterns, and the use of protective support systems associated with trenching and shoring operations. This course will also provide the student with the job performance requirements outlined in NFPA 1006, “Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications,” Trench Rescue. This course meets or exceeds the general requirements of NFPA 1670 “Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents,” Trench Rescue Awareness and Operations Level.
This is a physical and mentally demanding program that emphasizes scene management, safety and teamwork. Performances of all required practical skills as outlined in NFPA 1006 "Trench & Excavation Rescue" Awareness and Operations Level are necessary in order to receive a certificate.
This curriculum includes:
*Competent Person Training (Trench Rescue Awareness Level)review
*Scene Management and Safety for Trench Rescue Emergencies
*Implementation of a Trench rescue emergency action plan
*Collapse indicator recognition and scene safety surveys
*Ground pad installation methods
*Atmospheric testing & monitoring
*Ventilation and de-watering operations
*Support system construction and installation
*Screw jack shoring system construction and installation
*Pneumatic (Paratech RSS) shoring system construction and installation
*Construction of load stabilization systems
*Supplemental shoring and sheeting construction and installation
*Waler(s) shoring system construction and installation
*Non-intersecting trench rescue operations
*Patient access, medical considerations, packaging and extrication techniques
*Termination of a trench rescue emergency Incidents
All equipment is provided. Students are required to provide their own helmets, gloves, steel toe boots, and safety glasses or goggles. Personal equipment must comply with NFPA and ANSI.
This course serves as a prerequisite for Trench & Excavation Rescue Technician Level
