DESCRIPTION:
This 40-hour class is designed to provide the Rope Rescue Awareness and Operations Level student the opportunity to advance their skills. Classroom and practical evolutions will better prepare the student in the use of advanced rope rescue skills to access and remove patients from above and below grade locations. This course meets or exceeds the general requirements of NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents, Rope Rescue Technician Level.
This is a physical and mentally demanding program that emphasizes safety, teamwork, and scene management. Those with disabling fear of heights are discouraged from enrolling. Performances of all required practical skills as outlined in NFPA 1006 "Rope Rescue" Technician Level are necessary in order to receive a certificate.
This curriculum includes:
*Life safety rope and system components - Use and care
*Compound mechanical advantage systems/theory and application
*Complex mechanical advantage systems/theory and application
*Rescue “Pick-off” operations
*Passing a knot through a lowering, raising and rappel systems
*Ascending systems and changeover systems
*Highline theory, application and rescue techniques
*Highpoint pulley change of direction applications and systems
*Advanced rescue techniques and operations
All equipment is provided (except helmet and gloves) Personal equipment is acceptable if it complies with NFPA - 1983. This course serves as a prerequisite for Confined Space Rescue Technician Level.
