DESCRIPTION:

This course also provides the student with the job performance requirements outlined in NFPA 1006, “Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications,” Vehicle/Machinery Rescue. This course meets or exceeds the general requirements of NFPA 1670 “Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents,” Vehicle/Machinery Rescue Awareness and Operations Level.

This curriculum includes:
*Procedures to conduct a size-up of existing and potential conditions and implementing site control and scene management
*Procedures for the identification of the resources necessary to conduct safe and effective operations
*Procedures for implementing the emergency response system for vehicle and/or machinery rescue incidents
*Recognition of general hazards associated with vehicle and/or machinery rescue incidents
*Procedures to identify probable victim locations and survivability
*Procedures for making the rescue area safe, including the stabilization and isolation (lock-out/Tag-out) of all vehicles and/or machinery.
*Procedures to identify, contain and/or isolate fuel release.
*Procedures for the protection and packaging of a victim during extrication disentanglement
*Procedures for accessing victims trapped in a vehicle or machinery
*Procedures for performing extrication and disentanglement operations involving packaging, treatment and removal of victims trapped in vehicles/machinery through the use of hand tools.
*Procedures for the mitigation and management or general and specific hazards (fire, explosion) associated with vehicles.
*Termination of a vehicle/machinery rescue emergency Incident

All equipment is provided. Students are required to provide their own bunker gear, helmets, gloves, steel toe boots, and safety glasses or goggles. Personal equipment must comply with NFPA and ANSI.

This course serves as a prerequisite for Confined Space Rescue Operations Level and Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Technician Level
