Dear Broward Fire Academy Applicants,
The Firefighter I & II Program is a 450-hour course. This program meets the requirements set forth by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, State Fire Marshal Office, for certification as a firefighter. Included in the Firefighter I & II Programs are the written and practical portions of the State Firefighter I & II Certification Examination.
The Firefighter I & II Program is a physically and mentally challenging course that includes extensive classroom and practical field components. The Firefighter I & II Program is offered in two class schedules, a full-time day class schedule and a part-time night class schedule. The day class schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is approximately 3 months in length. In addition to the registration fees, a student will be required to purchase books, uniforms and supplies. Students must provide their own bunker gear, boots, hood, helmet and gloves. These items may be purchased or rented from any company. For your convenience we have provided a list of suppliers on our web page at www.bfa.edu under EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER’S. The Broward Fire Academy, McFatter Technical Center or Broward County Public Schools do not endorse any equipment supplier.
