DESCRIPTION:

Fire Service Hydraulics course curriculum covers relationship between flow and pressure and mathematical hydraulic formulas.  Students must bring a simple calculator with square root function.  Course includes pump theory, pump rating, pressure and vacuum gauges.

Apparatus Operations curriculum covers the laws, rules and driving techniques for emergency vehicles, as well as a review of fire service hydraulics.  Fire ground evolutions and a driving course make up the practical part of the course.  The evolution portion of the course includes the use of pre-connected lines, tandem pumping, drafting, relays and master streams.  The student should have a basic understanding of fire stream hydaulics prior to entering this course.  Students must bring gloves and proper attire for water pumping exercises.

NOTE:  This course requires work to be done prior to and/or following attendance.

Class size is limited to 12 students minimum, 24 maximum.

Textbook:  FSFC Fire Service Hydraulics (NOTE:  IFSTA "Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator Handbook,

2nd ed." is approved and is acceptable for the State of Florida examination for Pump Operator for

FFP 1301 and 1302.
