Welcome to the Broward Fire Academy!
The Broward Fire Academy Firefighter I & II Program is a 450-hour course. This program meets the requirements set forth by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training, State Fire Marshal Office, for certification as a firefighter. Included in the Firefighter I & II Programs are the written and practical portions of the State Firefighter I & II Certification examination.
The Firefighter I & II Program is a physically and mentally challenging course that includes extensive classroom and practical field components. The Firefighter I & II Program is offered in two class schedules, a full-time day class schedule and a part-time night class schedule. The day class schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is approximately twelve weeks in length. The night class schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is approximately 6 months in length. The course registration fee is $1,268.00* for Florida residents. Course registration fees are higher for out of state students. In addition to the registration fees, a student will be required to purchase books, uniforms and supplies. Students must provide their own bunker gear, boots, hood, helmet and gloves. These items may be purchased or rented from any Equipment Supplier. The Broward Fire Academy, McFatter Technical Center or Broward County Public Schools do NOT endorse any Equipment Supplier.
Entry into the Firefighter I & II Program requires the applicant to perform all mandatory requirements in a set time period and by the deadlines set by the Broward Fire Academy. Applicants who miss a deadline or who do not meet the requirement process may be removed from this selection process. All applicants must have completed First Responder, EMT or the Paramedic program prior to entry into the academy. All applicants must place their name, address and phone number on the waitlist at this time. All applicants are selected from the waitlist and notified in chronological order by their waitlist entry date. The notification process of acceptance into the Broward Fire Academy will be delivered by the US Postal Service. If your name, address, or phone number changes it is your responsibility to notify the Broward Fire Academy.
Due to safety and student confidentiality, we are unable to release student information over the phone. Students must come in person to the Broward Fire Academy with a valid photo ID to check wait-list status, update student information or any other student information issues.
